In this video, our former Tabler, Leo Joosten, invites you to experience the excitement of the Noordoostpolder. Leo and his partner Anouk haven’t missed a single Euromeeting in recent years, traveling across Europe to support the event in each of your countries. Let Leo’s passion and dedication inspire you as he shares what makes the Noordoostpolder a place to remember!
The tulip fields in the Noordoostpolder are a breathtaking sight each spring, with vibrant colors stretching as far as the eye can see. As one of the Netherlands’ largest tulip regions, the Noordoostpolder transforms into a floral paradise, showcasing innovative agriculture and a proud heritage rooted in Dutch tradition.
The Noordoostpolder, created in the 1940s, was reclaimed from the sea as part of the Netherlands’ ambitious land reclamation projects. Protected by strong dikes, it sits around 4 meters below sea level. This unique land was transformed from seabed to farmland by pioneers who built a thriving community. Today, it stands as a testament to Dutch innovation in water management and resilience against the sea.
Along the dikes of the Noordoostpolder stand the Netherlands’ tallest modern wind turbines, a blend of innovation and tradition in wind energy. Originally built to harness wind power in this reclaimed land, these turbines now symbolize Dutch leadership in sustainable energy. Visible from afar, they line the dikes like sentinels, showcasing advanced engineering that influences wind energy projects worldwide.
The Waterloopbos is a historic forest in the Netherlands, originally used for hydraulic experiments from the 1950s onward. Engineers created scale models of major world harbors to test water flow, aiding projects from Rotterdam to Bangkok. Now a unique nature reserve, it showcases remnants of these models, symbolizing Dutch expertise in water management and its global impact on harbor engineering.
The Noordoostpolder, known as the “Potato Capital of the World,” is famed for its high-quality potatoes grown on fertile, reclaimed soil. This unique region in the Netherlands produces a wide variety of potatoes, supplying markets across Europe and beyond. With generations of farming expertise and innovation, the Noordoostpolder has become a global leader, symbolizing Dutch agricultural excellence.
We are looking forward to Euromeeting 2025! Back in 2017, we had an amazing celebration, and now it’s an honor to welcome fellow Tablers back to our region. There’s so much we’re proud of here in the Noordoostpolder, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Our team has been hard at work, and we’re dedicated to making sure you experience the very best of what we have to offer. From cultural highlights to social events, our goal is to make you feel at home while also giving you a fresh perspective on the Noordoostpolder.
So, to all of you: welcome back, or welcome for the first time! We’re here, ready and excited, to give you a warm Dutch welcome in 2025. Let’s make this another unforgettable Euromeeting together.
